Las Gaviotas
Project Gaviotas, Vichada, Colombie
Village-laboratory founded by Paolo Lugari in 1971 in the eastern Llanos, where reforesting arid savanna with Caribbean pine allowed a tropical forest to regenerate under the canopy. The site combines forestry, pine resin extraction and distillation, solar energy and locally designed water pumps. More than eight million trees have been planted there.
