Levures sauvages de Patagonie (IPATEC)
Project San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentine
Research led by Diego Libkind at the IPATEC institute (CONICET) in Bariloche, which in 2011 identified Saccharomyces eubayanus in Nothofagus forests, the parent species behind lager brewing yeast. The discovery led Heineken to launch its H41 beer and Argentine brewers to develop Patagonia Salvaje. Research and commercial development continue at the institute.
